Legal metrology field is concerned with measuring devices used in the commercial, health and environmental fields. The calibration process of these devices aims to ensure transparency and the absence manipulationin use of measuring devices used in trade,and to control measuring devices used in the field ofcitizens and the environment,
Because of the importance of this field of metrology, the National Measurement Directorate has taken all administrative and technical preparations for the implementation of related activities in this field for the protection of citizens and the environment which include the following activities:
- Calibration of scales and balances used in jewelry stores in all country governorates.
- Calibration of pumps used in petrol distribution stations in all country governorates.
- Calibration of Petrol transportation tanks counters
- Calibration of scales and balances used in shops in different fields
- Calibration of high - load weighing bridges.
- Verification of pre-packaged materials.
In addition to the above activities, the department checks the imported and locally produced legal measuring devices by verifying the production documents and certificates.
