Medical Devices and Supplies Standards Committee Holds Its 29th Meeting

The Medical Devices and Supplies Standards Committee held its 29th meeting in a single session, conducted both in person and via Google Meet, with the participation of representatives from 10 entities across the public and private sectors, as well as relevant academic institutions. The meeting was held as part of the Palestinian Standards Institution’s efforts to develop and update the Palestinian standards system in line with the latest international standards and to meet the needs of the medical devices and supplies sector.

Dr. Hiba Zbadi, the Committee’s Rapporteur, explained that the Committee began its proceedings by following up on the implementation of decisions made at the previous meeting and reviewing the Committee’s 2026 work plan. It then proceeded to discuss the agenda items, which included reviewing and updating a range of Palestinian standards in the fields of health informatics, wheelchairs, medical products containing live human cells, clinical investigation of medical devices for human use, medical devices utilizing animal tissues and their derivatives, sterile single-use acupuncture needles, and traditional Chinese medicine.

She added that the Committee discussed 11 draft standards and decided to submit them to the Board of Directors for adoption as Palestinian standards. Seven of these were new standards, while four were updated drafts intended to replace previous editions.

The Committee also completed its review of 13 Palestinian standards and decided to refer nine of them for updating, while approving the continued validity of the remaining four standards after confirming that they remained technically appropriate.

These efforts form part of broader initiatives to strengthen quality infrastructure, support environmental protection and public health, and keep pace with scientific and technological developments.
