Medical Devices Working Group Continues Developing Mandatory Technical Regulations and Holds Its Fifteenth Meeting

As part of the work of the Mandatory Technical Regulations Committee, the Medical Devices Working Group held its fifteenth meeting today. The meeting forms part of a series of meetings conducted over 12 sessions, held both in person at the headquarters of the Palestinian Standards Institution and virtually via Microsoft Teams, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Health, and the Federation of Palestinian Industries.

Dr. Ahmad Ghanem, Chair of the Working Group, stated that, in line with the Group's detailed 2026 work plan, the Group has completed three readings of the draft Mandatory Technical Regulation for In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Medical Devices. The three readings were conducted over three meetings spanning 18 months and a total of 87 sessions. The Group decided to submit a recommendation to the Mandatory Technical Regulations Committee to consider the document as the fourth draft of the proposed regulation.

These efforts are part of the regulatory framework for the medical devices sector and are aimed at establishing the rules governing the placing on the market, making available, or putting into service of in vitro diagnostic medical devices intended for human use, as well as their accessories.

It is worth noting that, in accordance with its long-term work plan, the Working Group is preparing to work on three additional draft regulations to complete the specific requirements applicable to different categories of medical devices that share common technical characteristics.

The Working Group has scheduled its sixteenth meeting for 20 August 2026, during which it will commence work on the draft Common Specifications for the Reprocessing of Single-Use Medical Devices. The draft is expected to undergo three rounds of review.
