Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution and Chambers Union Discuss Enhancing International Recognition of Halal Certificates and Supporting Palestinian Exports
Ramallah – Dr. Haidar Hijjah, Director General of the Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution, received Mr. Abdu Idris, Chairman of the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, who visited the institution to commend the joint efforts that led to Malaysia’s recognition of the Halal certificates issued by the institution, and to discuss follow-up measures to build on this achievement and enhance export opportunities for Palestinian products.
The two sides agreed to hold a workshop to introduce the mechanisms and procedures for pursuing exports to the Malaysian market, helping Palestinian producers and exporters benefit from the recognition of Palestinian Halal certificates and translate it into practical opportunities to access a new market.
The two sides affirmed that Malaysia’s recognition is the result of joint efforts by the Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution, the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and the International Chamber of Commerce Palestine (ICC Palestine), as well as their role in strengthening cooperation and overcoming obstacles to the recognition of Palestinian certificates. This contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of national products in international markets and advancing the Chambers of Commerce initiative for Islamic countries in cooperation with the Federation of Palestinian Chambers.
The meeting also addressed ongoing efforts to secure additional international recognitions, particularly Indonesian recognition of Palestinian Halal certificates. The related procedures have reached their final stages, which would expand opportunities to access new markets once completed.
This follow-up is part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to serve Palestinian industry and the national economy by developing its technical services and enhancing international recognition of Palestinian certificates, in partnership with the Federation of Palestinian Chambers, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and relevant entities supporting trade and exports.
