Standards and Metrology Institution Discusses Strengthening the Trade System and Facilitating Export Flows with the World Bank

Ramallah – The Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution (PSMI) held a consultative meeting today, Thursday, at its headquarters with a World Bank delegation to discuss ways to strengthen the Palestinian trade system and facilitate export flows, as part of the ongoing consultations on the Trade Facilitation Project in Palestine.

The meeting was chaired by the Institution’s Director General, Dr. Haider Hajja, and attended by a World Bank delegation comprising Mr. Fabio Artuso, Trade Facilitation Advisor, along with several specialists. Discussions focused on prospects for cooperation and coordination among relevant stakeholders, as well as the Institution’s role in supporting national efforts to simplify trade procedures and enhance the competitiveness of Palestinian products.

During the meeting, Artuso presented the project’s key components and objectives, particularly the development of a specialized electronic platform providing trade information in Palestine. The platform will enable the private sector and exporters to access trade-related information, procedures, and requirements, thereby contributing to greater transparency and facilitating trade operations.

For his part, Hajja affirmed the Institution’s readiness to establish electronic connectivity and integration with relevant ministries and institutions. He highlighted the significant progress the Institution has made in digital transformation through the automation of its services and internal operations, which has contributed to streamlining procedures and improving the efficiency of services provided to clients.

Hajja also emphasized the importance of unifying efforts and strengthening information exchange among institutions involved in the trade system, while making use of the digital infrastructure developed by the Institution. These efforts would help simplify procedures for exporters and enhance the ability of national products to access regional and international markets.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue coordination and follow-up and to explore practical next steps for implementing the outcomes of the consultations, in support of trade facilitation in Palestine.
