The Environment Technical Committee Holds Its 15th Meeting and Recommends the Adoption of 14 Updated Palestinian Standard Drafts
The Environment Technical Committee held its 15th meeting via Google Meet, with the participation of representatives from ten relevant entities. The meeting was part of the Palestinian Standards Institution’s ongoing efforts to develop and update the national standards system in line with the latest international developments and standards, while addressing the needs of various environmental sectors.
The Committee’s Rapporteur, Eng. Tareq Abu Al-Rub, explained that the meeting began with a follow-up on the implementation of the decisions made during the previous meeting, a review of the Committee’s 2026 work plan, and the approval of its 2027 work plan. The Committee then proceeded to discuss the draft updates to Palestinian standards listed on the agenda, which covered a range of specialized standards in the fields of water quality, soil, and acoustics.
Abu Al-Rub added that the draft standards discussed by the Committee included methods for analyzing and determining chemical elements and substances in water, including selected elements, uranium isotopes, cyanide, phthalates, and alkylphenols, using modern laboratory analytical techniques.
The drafts also included specialized standards for determining sound power levels emitted by noise sources, requirements for the calibration of reference sound sources, occupational noise exposure measurement, as well as methods for determining various heavy metals and organic pollutants in soil.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Committee completed its review of the 14 Palestinian draft standards listed on the agenda and recommended submitting them to the Institution’s Board of Directors for approval as updated Palestinian standards, replacing previous editions. This step is expected to contribute to improving the accuracy of measurements and analyses and harmonizing technical procedures in accordance with the latest international references and practices.
This meeting forms part of the Palestinian Standards Institution’s ongoing efforts to develop and update national standards across various sectors, strengthen the quality system and technical infrastructure in Palestine, protect the environment and public health, and contribute to achieving sustainable development.
