The Mandatory Technical Regulations Department was established in 2005 with the aim of supporting and assisting the Mandatory Technical Regulations Committee and its specialized working groups in carrying out their tasks, including the preparation of draft mandatory technical regulations and accompanying documents, and submitting them to the relevant ministers for approval.

The department currently employs five staff members from various scientific disciplines to cover all required fields and sectors. These staff members also lead the main committee and its specialized working groups, which include representatives from all relevant entities. The department consists of one division: the Engineering Section. Its employees have drafted over 80 regulation projects, which were presented to the respective groups for discussion and consensus.

The department primarily provides its services to governmental entities that seek to regulate and organize the marketing of various products with the aim of protecting the health and safety of the Palestinian citizen, ensuring fair competition, and preventing fraud and deception.
