This Palestinian standard specifies the requirements that must be met in the commercial varieties of eggplant cultivated from the species Solanum melongena L., of the Solanaceae family, to be delivered to the consumer fresh, with eggplant intended for industrial processing being excluded.

Eggplants are classified according to their shape into the following types:
• Long eggplant
• Round / Spherical eggplant
• Oval eggplant

If this standard is applied at stages following packaging, products may exhibit slight loss of freshness and firmness, minor deterioration, and a tendency to spoil.
